About Mtentu Ramble

A family-operated hiking and experience business on South Africa's Wild Coast, created with love for the land and its people.

Our Story

Mtentu Ramble was created by Kelly Hein alongside her parents Alan and Elena Hein. The family has lived in Mtentu for over a decade, developing deep connections with the land and local communities.

Previously, the Hein family managed Mtentu Lodge, a beloved coastal retreat. After losing the property to fire, they rebuilt with community support, establishing Mtentu Ramble as a community-partnership model rooted in the local area.

Today, Kelly manages online operations, bookings, and pre-arrival planning, while Alan and Elena serve as on-ground hosts, handling cooking, reserve ticketing, and sharing their wealth of local knowledge with every guest.

Our Philosophy

“Travel should give back more than it takes.”

We believe in sustainable, community-centered tourism. When you hike with us, you're not just exploring the Wild Coast, you're contributing to local livelihoods, preserving traditional knowledge, and supporting families in the Transkei.

What We Stand For

Community Partnership

Direct partnerships with local homestays, sourcing from village gardens and local fishermen.

Local Employment

Employment of community guides who share their traditional knowledge and love of the land.

Leave No Trace

Committed to sustainable tourism that gives back more than it takes from the environment.

More Than an Adventure

When you join the Mtentu Ramble, you experience guided hikes led by local guides, share meals prepared by residents, and stay in community homestays.

It's more than adventure, it's community, family, and the Wild Coast at its most authentic.
