Pebble Beach & Skate Bay: Right on Your Doorstep

Just a short walk from the Hiking Shack is where most adventures begin. First treasures are sought on Pebble Beach, heart-shaped stones etched by continuous tumbling by the waves. Then on to Skate Bay for a refreshing dip in the ocean, whilst possibly nearby, fishermen cast lines in the early morning light, while late afternoons often bring fiery sunsets that light up the rocks.

Sikombe Estuary

Sikombe River mouth has a small steamship that was wrecked years ago. Learn more about the shipwrecks on the wild coast. The farmers in Port St.Johns would send their produce down the coast to Durban for sale. The quickest route was by sea because of all the difficult terrain and gorges along the Wild Coast. This is an ideal place for the kiddies. A shallow, normally warm lagoon, and not far over the sand, the Indian Ocean awaits.

The mix of river and ocean makes it one of the most peaceful spots on the coast, ideal for a lazy swim after a day of hiking or kayaking.

The Viewpoint

The Viewpoint overlooking the Mtentu River

One wades across the top of Leopard Rock Falls to get to the viewpoint. A magnificent panoramic view of the Mtentu River far below, as well as the river mouth.

Paradise Pool

A short distance away from the viewpoint, one will find Paradise Pool, a super pool for swimming and relaxing. A small waterfall cascades into the pool.

Pushengunwe Falls

About 3 kilometers from Paradise Pool is the top of Pushengunwe Falls, another marvellous view of the Mtentu River. If one goes upstream this river, another great pool can be found to lie in and relax.

Literally means " buy from close by," and this is not a place to miss. On your way to or from your adventures. Ice cold beverages await you, and then down to the Hiking Shack 200 meters away.
