It doesn’t look like much until you stand above it. Beneath the falls, the water has carved out a perfect natural plunge pool. It’s three metres deep, hidden in the rock, with a ledge nearby that makes the jump feel daring. Slide in, let the bubbles roar around you, and you’ll see why we call it the Jacuzzi Hole.

Everyone talks about Horseshoe Falls, but few know about the little rock shelf just above it, tucked into the riverbank. From here, you can spread out a blanket, dip your feet in a shallow pool, and watch the water fan out in its wide arc before tumbling away.
It’s not marked, and it’s easy to miss unless you’ve got a local with you. But once you find it, it’s the perfect lunch stop on a river hike.

The dunes are no secret, they glow bright ochre even from a distance. But the secret is when to go. Late afternoon, when the sun drops low and the sand turns molten red, the dunes come alive. The wind dies down, the light softens, and it feels like you’re walking through a painting.

Hidden Beaches and Shell Beds

Just south of the lodge, the tide pulls back to reveal beds of shells and driftwood. Walk slowly, and you’ll spot cowries, sand dollars, and tiny spirals polished smooth by the sea.

Secret Pools of the Mtentu River

Upstream from the main waterfalls, the Mtentu River hides a series of quiet pools, best reached by kayak. They’re shaded by forest, cooled by trickling falls, and perfect for a private swim.
On hot afternoons, these spots are pure magic, dragonflies skimming above the water, birds calling from the canopy, and nothing but the ripple of water for company.
